Until 2005, had multiplied the number of trekkers on the control with the result that the paths were overcrowded and dance with litter and garbage. It got so bad that the Government is finally up and introduced a limit of 500 trekkers per day, guides and porters. From a city for 1200 persons, approximately 300,000 tourists embark on an annual pilgrimage to the ruins, of which about 12,000 arrives in the old Inca Trail. But just as the glaciers of Kilimanjaro characteristics by warming, increased levels of rain is threatening to destroy the very essence of the ruins of Machu Picchu.
