Tambomachay is one of the greatest expressions of Andean architects for its special hydraulic possessing skill. The harmony of the constructions with nature that covers this magic place is combined with the tranquillity and peace that tramsmite.
The name comes from two words Quechua: tampu, and machay, which means place of rest.
It consists of a series of aqueducts, canals and several waterfalls that run through the rocks.
A sample of the great skill of the incas in engineering hidaulica can be found in two waterfalls that are exactly equal and transporting and maintaining a constant flow of clean, clear water throughout the year.
The water itself was venerated as a source of life in the Inca Empire so Tambomachay constitutes one of the pillars of the Andean Cosmovision being considered as a shrine to the water.
Tambomachay is located just 8kms from the city of Cuzco
