To go to the lost Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu-how to make a smooth trip

If Machu Picchu is the most popular site in Peru, would you be a little disappointed to know that there is no direct road from Lima, the capital of Peru to Machu Picchu. When you landed in Lima, you need to reach Cusco, the old capital of the Inca Empire. The distance between these Tow cities are more 700 miles. You can fly from Lima, or take a bus for a long, difficult journeys. When you reach Cusco, you must make another trip to reach Aguas Calientes, Peru, which is the nearest town of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu, famous ruin are just a few kilometers from Aguas Calientes, Peru. You can walk or take a bus to reach it, so let us now discuss the whole in a closer way.


Lima to Cusco


Most come to Lima through an international flight. If you reach Lima with plenty of time, you can surely stay a night or two, and move around the city. Many cases reaching Peru with a budget of 4/5 days. In these cases, you should correct your flight so you will reach it in the morning. Most of the popular flight lands early in the morning in Lima airport. So you can take another flight from Lima to Cusco, within a few hours. They have 3/4 good airline in Peru, and some of them offer flights every few hours from Lima.


But you should not buy tickets from the airport, but when you buy the international ticket, make the connecting flight to Cusco on the same morning. Lima to Cusco flight time is only one hour, so you can reach Cusco on early afternoon on the same day. There is another alternative route. You can take bus to Cusco. It is a long journey. There are some good bus company that you can choose which Ormeno or Cruz del Sur, the luxurious buses running between Lima and Cusco. If you are no rush, you can choose the bus instead of the plan, because they are really very cheap. Planet will cost around $ 100.00 for a one way trip. You need only 30.00/40.00 trip US $ for a luxury bus to Cusco. But remember buses take approximately 20 hours to reach Cuzco.


Cusco to Aguas Calientes, Peru


When you reach Cusco, you can stay a night here, or go to Machu Picchu the same day. It depends on how many days you plan to stay in Peru. Cusco is a historic town. If you can pass some time there, you will certainly enjoy the city. But if you're in a hurry, then take the afternoon train from Cusco to Aguas Calientes, Peru. Train travel is scenic and if you have to sit for more than three hours inside the train (the distance is 70 miles), you will find it a pleasant experience.


There are plenty of hotels in Aguas Calientes, Peru to sleep in, if you're in a busy season, then I recommend you to book a room long before you reach it.


Aguas Calientes, Peru to Machu Picchu


You can wake up very early in the morning to take the bus to Machu Picchu ruins. It is less than two miles and you will need approximately twenty minutes to reach the ruins. Aguas Calientes, Peru is a very small town. They have only buses for transportation. You can cover the city easily on foot. They have two bus stations in the city, one is in the middle of the city, very close to where the train stops, others are at the end of the cities, towards Machu Picchu. Catch the bus from Aguas Calientes, Peru is easy, ticket booth is on the bus stations and bus leaves town for Machu Picchu ruins at a small range. Then take a bus, enjoy a little 20 minutes journey to reach Machu Picchu, and enjoy the stunning Machu Picchu.
